In What Ways Have You Lied to Yourself About Your Eating Habits?

In What Ways Have You Lied to Yourself About Your Eating Habits?

As women, we often carry the weight of many roles—wife, mother, sister, friend, employee, entrepreneur and so much more. Amidst all of that, it's easy to deceive ourselves when it comes to what we put in our bodies. We tell ourselves stories about our eating habits that might feel comforting in the moment but keep us stuck in patterns that no longer serve us. I’ve been there and I know many of you have, too.

We tell ourselves that "I'll start tomorrow" or "Just one more bite won't hurt." We allow the excuses to pile up, convincing ourselves that we deserve the treat or that we’re just too busy to focus on better choices. But what happens when tomorrow comes? The cycle repeats and we’re left with guilt, frustration and sometimes, a loss of hope.

I know the struggle because I’ve lived it too. But what if we allowed ourselves to be honest with ourselves? What if we took a step back and asked the tough questions?

What if we're lying to ourselves about our eating habits?

  1. "I don't have time to eat healthy." We’ve all used this one. Between our careers, families and personal life, making healthy meals can feel like an impossible task. But what if it’s more about priorities than time? In the end, making time to nourish our bodies can improve our energy, mindset and productivity. It’s a choice, not just a constraint.
  2. "I'm too tired to cook or meal prep." Sometimes, it feels easier to grab something quick, whether it’s takeout or a pre-packaged snack, but in truth, our tiredness often comes from neglecting our bodies for so long. Taking the time to plan meals and nourish ourselves isn’t just a task—it’s a form of self-love and respect. You deserve that, Sis.
  3. "I don't need to track what I eat; it’s just a little indulgence." It’s so easy to ignore the small bites here and there, the extra snacks that we don’t count as part of our daily intake. But those little indulgences add up -- quick. And it’s not about perfection—it’s about awareness and honesty. Being mindful of what we put in our bodies allows us to make intentional choices that support our health.
  4. "It's okay to eat like this because I’m stressed." Stress is a part of life, but how we cope with it is in our control. Food might offer a temporary comfort but it doesn’t heal the root cause of stress. Turning to healthier habits—like prayer, deep breathing or journaling—can bring us peace in a way that food never will.
  5. "This is just how I am; I can’t change." There’s a deeper lie here—one that whispers that you are unworthy of health, of change, of growth. Let me tell you this: YOU CAN CHANGE. You are never too far gone, never too busy, never too anything to begin making small changes that honor your body.

When we lie to ourselves, we deny the truth of who we are and who we are becoming. As women of faith, we are called to care for our bodies because they are temples (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Every time we honor our bodies with nourishing food and self-care, we align ourselves with God's will for our lives. Our health is not just a matter of physical appearance; it’s about living fully, purposefully and with the strength to pursue the work God has set before us.

It's time to stop the cycle of lies. It's time to face the truth and take ownership of our eating habits, understanding that true freedom comes when we stop lying to ourselves. Embrace the power of honesty and choose to nourish your body with love, grace and intention. Your journey toward wellness is not a destination but a beautiful process of becoming who God created you to be—strong, vibrant and full of life.

Remember, this isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress. Each step you take towards honesty with yourself is a victory. And that is something to celebrate.

With love and strength, Qua
